Questions & Answers
Q: How did the recent event, Recon, go?
We're really happy with how Recon went. It was our first time hosting an event of that size, so we were cautious and held back in some ways. But overall, it went super well and we're excited for the next one. It was educational and focused on building a community, and it felt right. Now that we've learned from the experience, we can be even more ambitious with the next event.
Q: In a recent video, your dad expressed how much you've impacted his life. Can you tell us more about that moment and the connection you made with your dad?
My dad and I have always been very different. He grew up in the USSR, which wasn't an optimistic place. He had a different perspective on things, especially when it came to his employees. But recently, we had some serious conversations that led us to a connection point. In my book, I realized that there's more to success than just empathy or ambition. There are different combinations of qualities that make us who we are. I saw that one ingredient was missing in my dad's approach, and when he started using it more, it made a positive impact on both him and the people around him.
Q: Why do you think that moment was so special and emotional for you?
It was special because my dad has had moments of optimism in the past, but they've been inconsistent. To hear him express how I've impacted his life and changed his perspective was really emotional for me. It has the potential to make a big impact not just on him, but on everyone around him. It was a beautiful moment because it showed that words can have a profound effect on someone's life. It reminded me of the power of communication and the responsibility that comes with it.
Q: You mentioned how you have a unique way of communicating that helps people. Can you expand on that?
It's a heavy feeling to know that your words can change someone's life. Whether it's therapists, teachers, or parents, those who have the ability to provide value through their words understand how intoxicating and impactful it can be. I try to communicate in a way that helps people, and it's something I'm passionate about. I believe that being able to say something that provides value to someone you care about is incredibly powerful. It's a feeling that's hard to describe but incredibly fulfilling.
Q: It seems like you embrace contradictions and complexity in life. Can you explain your perspective on this?
I thrive in complexity and contradictions. I confuse people and that's a strength for me. I have high energy and charisma, but I also genuinely want everyone else to win. I believe that life needs to be talked about more in terms of self-awareness and self-love. Embracing contradictions allows us to be true to ourselves and fully express who we are. I don't believe in limiting ourselves to one thing or choosing between two opposites. Life is full of gray areas and we should embrace that complexity.
Q: How do you think societal pressure to conform to specific labels or roles affects people's happiness and sense of self?
I think societal pressure to conform is incredibly detrimental to people's happiness. In today's political climate, for example, people are pressured to align themselves fully with one side or the other, leaving no room for nuance or complexity. This simplification of issues and the need to fit into a certain tribe leads to unhappiness and a lack of self-expression. The answer lies in embracing the "purple," in recognizing that there is value in both sides, and that true happiness comes from finding a balance between opposing forces.
Q: How do you maintain a balance between being selfless and selfish in your pursuits?
The balance between selflessness and selfishness has always been important to me. I believe that helping others and making a positive impact is a worthy pursuit, but I also recognize the importance of taking care of myself and pursuing my own interests. It's a continuous process of refining that balance, and it's something I'm always working on. I find that when I play my game in entrepreneurship and use my energy to make a positive impact, it allows me to bring happiness to both myself and others.
Q: How do you navigate the tension between privacy and sharing on social media?
Privacy is something that's very important to me, especially in my personal life. While I have become more open about certain aspects of my life recently, it is not a direction I want to continue going in. I believe that everyone should have control over what they share on social media, and they should be thoughtful about what they choose to make public. Social media platforms don't make you do anything; it's up to you how much you share and what parts of your life you want to keep private. It's about being in control and not letting external pressures dictate what you share.
Q: How do you handle the pressure to be vulnerable and open on social media?
There is a misconception that vulnerability and openness equate to authenticity. I disagree with that notion. I believe that true authenticity and self-awareness come from being intentional about what you choose to share. Vulnerability can be important, but it is not necessary to share every aspect of your life. It's essential to think about what you are comfortable with sharing and to set boundaries accordingly. Being in control of what you share is key to maintaining authenticity.
Q: What do you think is the most worthwhile pursuit in life?
For me, the most worthwhile pursuit is the balance between selfishness and selflessness. I believe that I am gifted in helping others, but I am also comfortable with pursuing my own interests. Striking that balance is something I continuously work on. It's about finding a way to play my game and use my energy to make a positive impact while also taking care of myself. This pursuit, along with continuous self-reflection and growth, is what drives me.
